What Is a MagicBand at Disney World?

Short answer

A MagicBand is an optional wearable linked to a guest in My Disney Experience.

It can be used for eligible functions such as park entry, Lightning Lane touchpoints, linking PhotoPass images and opening a Disney Resort hotel room.

How it works

Link and assign the band to the correct guest. MagicBand+ adds rechargeable interactive lights and vibrations, but those effects are separate from its basic access uses. Disney also supports alternatives including MagicMobile and physical cards. See Disney’s current access options.

What families need to know

You do not need to buy a band simply because it is your first trip. It may be convenient for children or anyone who prefers tapping a wrist to handling a phone, but several bands add cost.

Common confusion

A MagicBand does not contain your plans by itself. It acts as a linked access method for information held in your Disney account.
